Jamf, enterprise management software for the Apple ecosystem

Jamf is a mid-market and enterprise device-management tool used by system administrators to configure and automate IT-administration tasks for macOS, iOS, iPadOS and tvOS devices.

Background:

Jamf is an enterprise-management solution of scale that remotely connects, manages and protects Apple users, devices and services.

Jamf rode the wave of Apple adoption in the enterprise, which was fueled by the rise of the bring your own device (BYOD) movement and personal, consumer adoption of Apple products in the 2010s. At the time of Battery’s 2016 investment, Apple controlled over 40% of the U.S. smartphone market and 25% of the global tablet market. Battery believed the growing comfort among consumers with the Apple ecosystem would in turn lead to increased adoption of the company’s products in the enterprise, where IT departments would need a solution for enterprise-device management. Indeed, while Mac usage was historically confined to a small number of departments within the enterprise–namely the marketing and creative departments–over the last 10 years, Apple product adoption has since expanded to include most other functional areas, from the C-Suite to sales, finance and IT.

In 2016, Battery made a passive, secondary investment in the company.

Outcome:

In October 2017, Vista Equity made a majority investment in Jamf.
